Saying that, digital radio overage worldwide still isn't as extensive as AM/FM radio - but that's only because analogue radio has been around for longer. That's because DAB radios offer a wider range of stations to choose from and the sound tends to be crisper as there's less disturbance. If you're still using an analogue FM radio, it might be time to switch over to a digital radio instead. Best DAB radios: FAQs Which is better: DAB or FM? There are no sales teams involved in our verdicts, which means if we don't like it for sound, design, usability and features, we simply won't recommend it. Having spent more years in this game than we'd care to admit, we are truly confident that our star-rated reviews are the best indication of the quality of the DAB radios in this list. On this, we test the audio performance using a range of musical genres and across FM, DAB and Bluetooth streaming if the product supports it, to ensure that the radio can handle everything from death metal tracks to softly-spoken poetry jams. We live with these radios in our homes to make sure that the performances are consistent, and we don't finalize our testing until we are certain of the sound quality. ![]() We make sure to test each model in a range of environments and against its chief competitors too, so you can be sure that the product will work just as well in your home, in whichever spot you've chosen to put it. It's important for us to compare the performance of each product against the specs claimed by its manufacturers, which is why we take the time to ensure the battery life (in portable models), connectivity, feature set and sound quality is as good as the brands say it is. We test countless DAB radios every year at TechRadar, and that means we know exactly which features and specs to look out for. There are times when sticking the radio on simply can't be beaten and we want you to experience that at its best. Why you can trust TechRadar We spend hours testing every product or service we review, so you can be sure you’re buying the best. The USP here is IPX7 waterproofing, which makes this a particularly good option for travelling or for poolside listening: where many portable speakers are splash-proof, the Tuner 2 is much more protected against accidental drops and deluges. Perfect by the sink, by a pool, at the beach, or if it's in danger of getting hosed while you're watering the garden. ![]() The charger here is USB-C but you'll need to provide your own power adapter. It's also worth noting that the Bluetooth here is 4.2, which isn't quite as free from interference as more recent versions of the Bluetooth standard.ĭespite those niggles, though, this is a typically well-built JBL speaker that's very easy to use and you can get up to 12 hours of radio playback between charges. It's perfectly fine for music and speech but it's not a radio you're going to use for a party. The radio itself is excellent, but the pocketability of this small radio means it has to have a relatively small speaker. The JBL Tuner 2 is a very portable and impressively rugged DAB/FM radio that also doubles as a Bluetooth speaker. ![]()

Nothing about that app is intuitive, or beautiful everything in it is harder to find and to read.Ī funny thing to note here is that the big selling point of Dark Sky was, according to actual meteorologists, not very good the science behind its down-to-the-minute precipitation forecast was fairly unscientific. Dark Sky’s features have supposedly been "integrated" into Apple’s native weather app, but I’ve spent the last few months’ death march trying to train myself into using Apple Weather, and I still think it sucks mondo butt. It wasn’t until this past summer when the date of death was announced, and at exactly the stroke of New Year’s midnight on the East Coast (trust me, I checked, and then I checked a few more times, just in case), the iOS app went dark. But the writing had been on the wall since 2020, when Apple, which has struggled to develop a good or popular weather app on its own, purchased it. We enjoyed a decade of Dark Sky, which began life as a Kickstarter project before releasing the app in 2012. You know the keys/phone/wallet patdown? To that, I added “check Dark Sky.” Now I may as well just never leave the house. It became an integral part of my going-outside routine. It told you how hard it was going to rain, and when it was going to stop. Not 16 minutes, and not 18 minutes, but 17. You’d open up the app and it would tell you that the rain was going to begin in 17 minutes. If you do know what Dark Sky was, you too loved it and miss it and are still scrambling to find a replacement app that can do what Dark Sky did: offer hyperlocal, hyper-short-term forecasts, in a pleasing, painless package. If you don’t know what Dark Sky was, well, maybe you’d better not read on, lest you realize what you missed out on. It could start raining at any minute and I’d have no idea. Do not laugh at me, and do not think I’m being overdramatic about this. My weather app is dead, bought and killed by Apple, and I am adrift. The new year is but a few days old, and I’ve already been disappointed dozens of times: once for each time my muscle memory has whipped my phone out of pocket and reached my thumb toward where Dark Sky used to be. ![]() ![]() ![]() In the “modern era” I bought the first Android phone, then moved to Apple at the launch of the iPhone 4. Thanks for sharing! Needle nose vice grips would do wonders to remove a stubborn bolt stuck in one if it had the edge to grip (which the flush designs don't). I'd like to see some that are shallow on one side and deep on the other. Normally they're flush on one side and deep on the other. What they really ought to do is make rivnuts that have grip on BOTH sides of the surface. If you don't have access to the backside then removal is still the same PITA as before. Unless you're talking about digging into the fiberglass, which I can see. The grip still comes from it surrounding the hole drilled for it, the shape of the grip doesn't particularly matter if this is a completely flat surface. How so? They look fantastic if you're able to get the plus sides aligned with some built-in stopping mechanism, but if the surface is completely flat, I don't see it offering any advantage at all. Looks like they would grab the fiberglass better. That might also be the case on our cars where there isn't enough room for that big of a mushroom on the back side of the fiberglass. one other disadvantage I remember was since they have a much wider distortion area on the blind side of the sheet of they didn't fit in some of our existing applications where the hole was close to a bend radius or edge of the sheet. I used a product called Tef-Gel which is basically Teflon powder suspended in grease.īack on the plusnut style inserts though. ![]() Using anti-seize on the fastener threads will also help prevent galvanic corrosion between dissimilar metals (aluminum insert, zinc plated steel bolts). I did a refurb on my luggage compartment a few years back and drilled out all the old rivnuts and replaced them with aluminum knurled AVK's. The standard M5 rivnuts that you can find on the DMCH online store are all smooth body aluminum inserts so a knurled body aluminum insert would be a good improvement over the standard. Here's a basic chart for threaded insert sizes, and you can see there are 2-4 different lengths for each thread size. If too long of an insert is used the barrel of the insert will fully mushroom out to prevent pull out, but spin out resistance is reduced since full clamp load is not achieved. If you install an insert that is too short for the application there will not be enough material to distort around the blind side of the hole and both spin out and pull out resistance are reduced. I believe we did some additional testing where we installed an insert both one size too small and one size too large for the specified sheet thickness. The inserts are all designed to compress approximately the same distance during installation, so matching the length of the insert to the sheet thickness is critical. The most important factor however was using an insert with the correct grip range. The knurled body AVK's beat out the plus nuts for spin out resistance, but the plus nuts had better pull out strength for applications where there would be a high tension load on the fastener that would tend to rip the insert out axially. I think a few years back we had a customer request something similar to the plus nuts and we did some testing. Typical applications are steel inserts into steel sheet, but we also do a lot of aluminum and some stainless inserts as well. At my place of employment we use AVK brand threaded inserts with a knurled body. ![]() ![]() ![]() Where_clause := where_clause || ' and mf_trn_folio = :b7 ' If it's not it does the other.īuild your SQL statement based on the bind values passed.
